Catherine McKie

Catherine married James Buchanan, son of William Buchanan and Margaret Wallace, on 13 Mar 1759 in Kirkbean, Dumfries. (James Buchanan was born in 1736, died on 29 Jul 1795 in Carsethorn, Dumfries and was buried in Kirkbean Kirkyard, Dumfries.)

  Marriage Notes:

"This officer reported that he had according to appointment summoned James Buchanan and Catherine Mackie to this meeting of session and they were Called, Compeared and being interrogate Acknowledged that they were married in Dumfries September last at the Road fair by a Person they did not know before witnesses But that they neither asked nor received any Certificate of their Marriage. The session taking the affair into Consideration Agreed to rebuke them for their Breach of good order and to take their Engagement Judicially to adhere to one another as Christian Husband & Wife and to pay the Kirk Treasurer the sum of five shillings Sterling as the fine usually exacted in such cases - besides the Session Clerk & officer their Dues - all which was accordingly done & they declared married Persons & dismissed."
